Perfect walking weather for our trip to Hebden Bridge! Our route from the station up the steep cobbled path and steps to the ancient village of Heptonstall gave us wonderful views of the town in the valley below. After a much needed stop for ice cream and cold drinks from the village tea rooms a short section across freshly-mown fields took us to the path along the forest-clad edge of the Hebden Beck gorge and down to the historic Gibsons Mill for our lunch break. The walk back along the wooded riverside path was a delightful contrast to the two previous sections. Our thanks to our wonderful walkers for making this a great day out!

Hebden Bridge is a picturesque old town situated on the Rochdale canal and at the confluence of two rivers.
This former textile town has become a lively spot for tourists with many cafes, bars, restaurants and small shops.
The old stone houses and cobbled streets preserve Heptonstall’s bygone charm
Leaving Heptonstall after our well-earned break, the uphill section of the walk completed.
From Heptonstall across towards Hardcastle Craggs was through pleasant open countryside with the sweet summer smell of freshly-mown grass.
Walking along the top of the Hebden Beck gorge.
Our lunch break in sight!
Crossing the beck at Gibsons Mill on the stepping stones.
Our route back to town was along the beautiful river bank path.
Who leant on that tree???
Our wonderful walkers!

  1. My 2nd walk with Andrew and Anna, and it was a such wonderful experience. With plenty of breaks and time to explore the village we walked through, the walk was perfectly paced for me. Some of the sections had inclines which felt slightly challenging, but could be covered suitably comfortably overall. I recommended the walking group to some friends too after my last walk, and having them join this one, made the experience even more special and memorable. Im looking forward to the next one already! Thank you for being so generous with your time and effort in making these walking tours a possibility.
